Burlington's Old North End
Old North End and is one of Burlington's oldest, most densely populated, and most diverse. Rich in history and the recipient of a recent revitalization effort, the Old North End is home to many lifelong Burlingtonians. Primarily developed in the late nineteenth century, the Old North End is characterized predominantly by low-income/affordable homes and apartments. The Old North End is located southeast of the New North End, just north of Burlington's central business district. Bordered by Lake Champlain on the west and the Intervale on the north, the Old North End is also home to several locally-owned shops and markets.
Burlington's North Street
North Street was once the heart of Burlington and its downtown center. Though Church Street has taken over that role, North Street is in the midst of a renaissance of sorts. Spurred by the North Street Revitalization Project, new business are moving back into the neighborhood. North Street boasts the progressive environmental company Draker SolarDesign, the vibrant Studio STK, one African and two Asian markets, and a host of other successful businesses. Just around the corner on North Winooski Avenue are Panadero Bakery and Viva Espresso cafe, two great new additions to the Old North End.
Old North End Highlights:
- Old North End parade takes place each fall
- Multi-Generational Center
- Garden at Sara Holbrook Community Center
- Neighborhood Planning Assembly
- Starr Farm Community Garden
