Burlington Neighborhood Searches
Burlington's South End
The South End is primarily a residential area, bordered on the east by one of Vermont's main thoroughfares, Route 7. With the lake as its western border, the South End includes a number of higher-end lakefront homes. The South End is also one of the most desirable Burlington neighborhoods thanks to a large number of more affordable homes, quiet streets, good schools, and a large percentage of owner-occupied.
Five Sisters
Burlington's South End is further defined by the 5 Sisters neighborhood, a name coined in 2002 after research showed that the 300-home neighborhood was developed by a man who allegedly named the five principal streets—Catherine, Caroline, Margaret, Charlotte, and Marian—for his daughters. This area is ideal for first time home buyers seeking good schools and the convenience of living within walking distance of Vermont’s largest city. Five Sisters features an eclectic mix of architectural styles—Cape Cods, foursquares, stone bungalows—yet consistent in scale and design elements. Front porches abound, and it’s rare to find a house larger than 2,500 square feet. Funky touches portray a relaxed, natural Vermont aesthetic. Five Sisters is also known as a laboratory for community ideas. Parents take turns walking children to school, a system they call the “walking school bus”.
